I decided to buy a 35mm prime lens (Nikon AF-S 35mm f/1.8G DX). My existing lenses are:

The Nikon is a bit soft, which may be due to a fall it had a few years ago and I never got it looked it. I was keen on trying the prime lens for a number of reasons

Having a prime lens means you have to work a bit harder to get a good composition, so you are forced to take your time.

There are fewer lenses inside, so the image quality should in theory be better.

This one has a maximum aperture of f/1.8, which means that it’s possible to get the background to blur more, which should be better for taking flowers and trees. I think.
As it’s nice and light, I took it out with me when I went out with the dogs earlier today just to have a play. Having the dogs with me means that the point (1) goes out of the window! I took quite a few photos of trees, which didn’t come out too well as I wasn’t able to focus correctly. I also took some flowers, which were ok:

Nothing spectacular, but it gives me an idea of what the lens can do and what I need to do to get some good images with it.
